Screen Tasmania Digital Seminar
Screen Tasmania is excited to be holding a two day digital seminar on Thursday, December 1 and Friday, December 2, 2011.
Where: Mercure Hotel, 156 Bathurst Street, Hobart
When: Thursday 1 December 9am - 5:00pm, Friday 2 December 9am - 3:30pm
The seminar is a two-day exploration of content development, production, marketing and monetisation in the digital space.
Without a doubt, digital methods of content creation and delivery will only become more prevalent across the world in the coming years, and this presents the Tasmanian screen industry with a significant opportunity to diversify and expand.
High profile speakers from across Australia and internationally will share their highly specialist knowledge on subjects that cover key aspects of this rapidly emerging area of content production.
Day One focuses on online narrative content. We’ll kick off with The Project Factory’s Jen Wilson, who will provide a Big Picture overview of the contemporary digital media environment, touching on the opportunities online and on other platforms, and future possibilities, to stretch our minds and set us up for the next two days.
Fairfax’s Ian Vaile, Hyperlocaliser’s Tony Surtees and Nickelodeon’s Hugh Baldwin will talk about online content from a broadcaster’s perspective, how the landscape is changing and what it all means for content creators as well as how to tap into global audiences and where demand will come from in the future.
Youtube’s, Wynston Albert will be beamed live from Japan, talking about strategic partnerships and making money on Youtube. Is making money realistic? Speakers will explore crowd sourcing, and other various business models through real case studies in a Tasmanian as well as national context.
We finish Day One with networking drinks at the Mercure Bar. Come along and meet the presenters informally. This event is designed to bring creatives and tech types together – an opportunity to converse, cross-over, and converge!
Day Two will explore the world of narrative driven gaming. We’re thrilled to have one of the world’s leading games writers Matt Costello (Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Doom 3, Rage) talking about the world of games as well as taking us through a case study. Other speakers explore advances in games including Tasmania’s very own Secret Lab.
Screen Australia’s Mike Cowap will take us through their All Media Fund with a specific focus on how to make a successful application.
To finish the day, an industry panel will close the seminar with a discussion on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the Tasmanian screen industry in the digital age.
This event is a unique opportunity for Tasmanians with an interest in digital content creation to talk to and learn from some of the industry’s most cutting edge and exciting practitioners as well as explore some of the practical issues around business models and viability. It is also a chance to meet others in this space and hopefully start to develop the creative, technical and business teams that are likely to succeed in this exciting area of the Tasmanian screen industry.
